About the Inn

Purchased in 1978 Diane and Larry undertook the restoration of this large Victorian home.      more

This 1883 Second Empire French styled house was built by the Hughes family as a year round private home. Joseph Henry Hughes and his wife Emma Hughes moved the old Colonial family home to the rear of the property and built this "modern" house fronting on Washington street.

They moved in with their two daughters Sara and Jennie Hughes in 1883. Sally and Jenny Hughes lived in the house the rest of their lives. They never married nor moved. They passed away in 1969. The City acquired the property and auctioned it off in 1971, two investing couples purchased it at auction. Diane and Larry Muentz purchased the house in 1978 and opened Alexander's Restaurant on Memorial Weekend 1978.

We opened the second floor as four bed and breakfast guest rooms in 1983, restored the third floor in 1991 and opened four more guest rooms.

As we restored the building to relive the elegance of the Victorian lifestyle, we added all the conveniences of the 21st century. Private baths, air conditioning, phones, tv's, wireless internet, baseboard heat, fully insulated walls and ceilings all provide the necessities of modern accommodations in the charm and elegance of the Victorian Era.
